Perez Hilton prompted a police response Tuesday after livestreaming what appeared to be acts of self-harm from his Miami home.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office said it received multiple calls reporting the livestream, and deputies responded to the residence, where they spoke with family members outside and confirmed Hilton was alone inside.
Rather than force an immediate encounter, deputies chose to step back while continuing to monitor the situation.
The Sheriff’s Office explained its approach in a statement: “In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication.
Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public.”
The office added that it was continuing to provide support to Hilton’s family as the situation unfolded.
The video, which reportedly showed Hilton cutting himself, has since been taken down, and his TikTok account has been suspended.
Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, co-CEOs of Golden Artists Entertainment and listed as Hilton’s managers, released a statement saying they were aware of the concerning content but had not yet been able to reach him directly.
“Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family. Until we have confirmed information, we will not speculate or comment further. We appreciate everyone’s concern and ask that his privacy be respected during this time.”
Hilton, born Mario Lavandeira, built his public profile in the early 2000s through a celebrity gossip website known for its provocative coverage, which drew criticism from a number of stars over the years.
In more recent years, he has spoken about stepping back from that persona and embracing a more family-oriented public presence after becoming a father.
