Amy Schumer is taking divorce to the movies — and considering her real-life situation, the timing is almost too perfect.
The comedian, 45, is set to star in and produce Best Divorce Ever, a new comedy from writer-director Sean Mullin, Variety reported Monday.
Schumer is currently going through her own divorce from Chris Fischer. The pair split in December 2025 after seven years of marriage, with Schumer filing for divorce the following month. They share son Gene, 7.
The film follows Clarissa, played by Schumer, and Franklin, a couple who decide to end their 20-year marriage without ending their family.
The pair attempt to make their split as friendly as possible, even throwing an “Untying the Knot” party. Naturally, things go spectacularly off the rails.
Disastrous dates, suspicious kids and questionable attempts at “conscious uncoupling” soon make the couple realize that ending a marriage might be easier than figuring out how to remain a happy family.
“Amy is one of the few people who can take something as painful as divorce and make it brutally honest and incredibly funny,” Matthew Shreder, CEO of Concourse Media, said.
Mullin, whose script was inspired by his own amicable divorce, said the movie aims to challenge how people view breakups.
“Divorce has a branding problem,” he told Variety. “I think we need to change the narrative that the only successful way to end a marriage is for one person to die.”
Schumer shared the news on Instagram, thanking Variety for highlighting the project and adding, “big year!”
Her own split from Fischer was described at the time as amicable, with Schumer saying, “Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”
Now, she’s turning that complicated chapter into comedy — because apparently divorce wasn’t stressful enough without making a movie about it.
