Queen Camilla put a royal spin on a rainy day at the races as she stepped out at York Racecourse for the opening day of the Ebor Festival.
The Queen arrived at the famous Yorkshire course on Wednesday carrying an umbrella as she made her way through the wet weather.
Camilla, 79, has a long-standing connection with York Racecourse as its Patron and used her visit to meet some of the people working behind the scenes.
Among those she met were St John Ambulance volunteers, jockey Joe Fanning, racecourse staff and representatives from local charities, shining a light on the people whose work often goes unnoticed amid the excitement of the racing itself.
The Queen is also set to present the trophy to the winning owner of the Juddmonte International Stakes, the feature race of the day.
Her appearance came without King Charles, who has remained in Scotland following the couple’s summer stay at Balmoral.
The King attended the formal welcome ceremony at Balmoral Castle on Tuesday before continuing his Scottish break.
While Camilla made the journey south for her racing engagement, Charles remained in Royal Deeside, giving the Queen a solo appearance at one of the season’s most eagerly anticipated fixtures.
Despite the rain, Camilla appeared unfazed as she carried out her duties, bringing a touch of royal glamour to a decidedly wet day at York.
