Anna Faris is opening up about her sobriety journey after recently sparking concern with what fans described as odd behaviour during her big screen comeback.
Appearing on the Dear Chelseapodcast on Thursday, August 20, the 49-year-old actress revealed she “stopped drinking” after realising she needed to step away from alcohol to avoid “self-sabotage.”
Faris made the revelation while discussing how her outlook on her career has changed , when host Chelsea Handler asked whether her newfound appreciation for her work was connected to quitting drinking.
“Do you think that has to do with not drinking?” Handler asked, per Page Six. “Because I know you stopped drinking. Maybe that lit that a little bit.”
“I really started to notice and appreciate if and when people recognise me, they would usually smile … thinking about something f**king stupid I did onscreen,” she said.
Faris added that alcohol had also affected her mental health, saying, “Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression for me for sure. I had to take a step back to not self-sabotage.”
The admission comes after Faris sparked concern with her demeanour and appearance following the June premiere of Scary Movie 6, in which she reprised her role as Cindy Campbell.
Fans pointed out that Faris looked thinner, with some noting that her demeanour suggest she’s “on” something.
