Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement had shocked members of the royal family and it appears Diana’s family was taken by surprise as well.
Earl Spencer, Harry’s uncle, had reportedly found out about the big move on Thursday, when the media outlets broke the news last Thursday.
The accommodation arrangements have been kept a secret officially, but reports have claimed that the couple are expected to move into a residence in Cotswold, where Princess Beatrice lives with her family.
However, Princess Diana’s brother seemed to be happy about the move as he even considered a generous offer for his nephew and his family, according to The Mail on Sunday.
Previously, royal biographer and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown had suggested that the Earl of Spencer would “offer up a house at Althorp, which sits on 13,000 acres in Northamptonshire”.
Now sources have revealed that Harry and Meghan will not be moving into Diana’s childhood estate, but they do have an offer, should they need it.
“If Harry had asked his uncle for a property at Althorp, he would have done all he could to find him somewhere suitable,” the insider said. “But he [Harry] has made his own plans.”
The report added that the plans to move back did not come up when the Sussexes were visiting Princess Diana’s resting place last month.
