Tedde Moore, the actress loved by many for playing Miss Shields in A Christmas Story, has died at 79.
Moore passed away on August 5 in Huntsville, Ontario, with her family around her. Her loved ones shared the sad news online and remembered her as someone who always cared deeply about the people around her.
“Forever the teacher, she had a quote for every occasion and a special way of touching the lives and hearts of everyone she met,” her family wrote.
The cause of death has not been revealed yet. Moore earlier talked publicly about her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2009.
For many fans, the late icon will always be remembered as Miss Shields, the kind but strict teacher from the 1983 Christmas favourite.
She starred along with Peter Billingsley and later returned to the role in My Summer Story in 1994.
Her acting career included some other films and television projects as well, including Murder by Decree, Second Wind, The Kennedys and Mistletoe Over Manhattan.
She, however, also received a Genie Award nomination for her role in A Christmas Story.
The star was a mother of three and also raised a foster daughter as she had five grandchildren.
Tedde Moore’s family said her “magic and love” would stay with everyone whose life she touched.
