Christy Knowings dies at 46: What happened to the ‘All That’ star?

Christy Knowings, best known for her work on Nickelodeon’s All That, has died at age 46.

The actress and comedian passed away on Tuesday, August 11, after being hospitalised following an asthma attack, according to TMZ.

Her death prompted an outpouring of grief from her former castmates, including Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, who remembered Knowings for her sharp comedy and memorable characters.

Knowings was born in the Bronx and joined All That during one of the sketch comedy show’s most popular eras. She appeared on the Nickelodeon series for three seasons from 1997 to 2000, sharing the screen with Thompson, Mitchell, Amanda Bynes, Nick Cannon and other young stars.

The series ran for 10 seasons between 1994 and 2005 and became a launchpad for several of Nickelodeon’s biggest stars, eventually spawning Kenan & Kel, The Amanda Showand The Nick Cannon Show.

Knowings continued working after All That, including a role in the 2009 film Mother and Child, for which she also received a writing credit. Her final acting credits included three appearances on Sesame Street between 2009 and 2011.

An official cause of death for Christy Knowings has not been confirmed. However, the actress was hospitalised on August 7 after suffering an asthma attack that reportedly caused brain damage. According to TMZ, she was placed on life support and remained there until Tuesday, when her family decided to pull the plug.

Thompson, who starred alongside Knowings on All That from 1997 to 1999, said her death hit him particularly hard.

“Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!” he wrote on Instagram.

Mitchell also remembered Knowings as a uniquely talented performer.

“Christy was truly one of a kind. So naturally funny, incredibly talented, and fearless when it came to comedy. She had a gift for creating characters that were big, memorable, and completely her own,” he wrote.

“I’ll always be grateful for the laughs, the memories, and the time we shared as part of the All That family,” Mitchell continued.

“Christy, thank you for sharing your incredible gift with all of us. Your talent, your characters, and the joy you brought to so many will never be forgotten.”
