Robert Downey Jr. returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the iconic comic book villain Victor Von Doom, heading into the multi-universe with Avengers: Doomsday.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, this major casting choice pivots the franchise toward a high-stakes showdown against an all-star roster.
Speaking about working with the Oscar-winning actor, the Russo brothers revealed they got “chills” the first time they heard the Iron Manstar slip into Doctor Doom’s voice while they were casually discussing ideas for the character.
“One day, I think it was in the trailer, we were just sort of talking about some ideas, and he broke out into the voice,” one of the brothers recalled. “It gave us chills.”
Their comments have taken on even more significance after a clip from Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con began circulating online.
In the footage, The Avengers actor can be seen subtly changing his accent, teasing Doctor Doom’s voice.
Although the moment was brief, it was enough to ignite excitement across social media, where fans praised the performance and speculated about what the full reveal will sound like on the big screen.
“RDJ went from ‘I am Iron Man’ to ‘Doom is inevitable’ in one voice switch. Legend,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “A great villain starts with the voice, and this sounds promising.”
Others were left wondering how the performance will come together in the finished film, with one fan asking, “Wait, he’s actually doing the voice in the suit or just off camera?”
