Salmonella outbreak prompt Whole Foods recall in 12 states as probe expands to 27 states

The Salmonella outbreak linked to jalapenos that has also impacted leafy greens this summer has expanded to 27 states.

Whole Foods on Wednesday, August 12, issued recall for 12 prepared food products, which the company suspects might be carrying potential salmonella contamination.

This comes after Taylor Farms issued a recall of 12 prepared food products on Sunday, August 9, from its retail stores.

The recall was issued after the company was reportedly linked to a cyclosporiasis outbreak for salsa, guacamole, and other items over Salmonella risks.

According to the Federal Drug Authority (FDA), which updated on its website, the recalled products were sold in 12 states and have “Best Before” expiry dates between August 7 and August 16, 2026.

So far, the recalled products have not been linked to any reported illnesses, said the FDA.

The recall includes select salsas, guacamole, pico de gallo and prepared foods, Whole Foods stated.

The recalled products were distributed in 12 states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

The company spokesperson said the recall was issued fearing the products contain jalapenos that were sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors and linked to the manufacturer’s recall.

According to premium health agencies of the U.S., the affected jalapenos, which were grown in Sinaloa, Mexico, contained Salmonella and were shipped by Coast Citrus Distributors to vendors in 27 states.

For context, Coast Citrus Distributors is a supplier of Taylor Farms.

The recall by Whole Foods comes amid salmonella outbreak connected to jalapenos that has left 345 people sick and hospitalised 36 across 27 states, as per federal health officials.
