United States (U.S.) Democratic Party lawmakers are demanding answers from the Secretary Pete Hegseth-led War Department after reports emerged that staff aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier were in emotional distress.
Earlier, the Navy Times reported that at least two sailors, out of 5,000 sailors and Marines, aboard the carrier had to be prevented from jumping overboard. No further details regarding the sailors who tried to jump were released.
According to the family members of the crew, their loved ones were in deep distress aboard the Lincoln, which has been deployed in the Arabian Sea since January, just before the launched Operation Epic Fury against Iran.
According to MS Now, over 200 family members of the people aboard the vessel met with acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao to express their concerns. One of the most disturbing messages that a wife received from her husband was, “I wish I don’t wake up tomorrow.”
According to Democratic Party’s California Representative Mike Levin, the ship is out of soap, deodorant, toothpaste. It has broken toilets, moldy showers and no hot water for weeks.
He urged the U.S. President Donald Trump to fire War Department Secretary Pete Hegseth and appoint someone who “is actually competent.”
It has been revealed that the aircraft carrier has not made a port call for over 200 days, setting a record for consecutive days at sea.
Senator Richard Blumenthal has urged the US Navy to provide its own assessment of the enlisted men and women’s physical and mental readiness to perform their duties. He also questioned whether Lincoln’s continued deployment was necessary to achieve U.S. military objectives against Iran.
