After months of uncertainty, Andrew Garfield is finally weighing in on the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding Artificial–the upcoming film inspired by OpenAI’s leadership upheaval.
The actor, who portrays Sam Altman, addressed the project’s rocky journey after Amazon MGM studios unexpectedly dropped the film before Indie powerhouse Neon stepped in to rescue it.
Speaking at the New York premiere of The Magic Faraway Tree, Garfield stayed upbeat about the unexpected twist.
“This business is in an interesting place and I’m fascinated by how things work,” he said. “I’m really grateful to Amazon for making the film with us and I’m also really grateful to Amazon for helping it find a new home.”
Garfield also praised the movie’s new distributor.
“I think Neon’s a really, really exciting home for it. I think it’s a really good fit and I’m really excited to release it with them,” he said, calling Neon “a daring studio doing daring films so I’m very, very excited to be partnering with them on it.”
Directed by Luca Guadagnino, Artificial follows the dramatic 2023 power struggle at OpenAI, when Altman was abruptly fired and reinstated within days. The cast also includes Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro and Ike Barinholtz.
The film has survived one Hollywood plot twist already. Now, fans are simply waiting for Neon to reveal when they will finally get to see it.
