Anthropic CEO lashes out at own companys employees: ‘Untrustworthy rats’
Anthropic CEO lashes out at own company’s employees: ‘Untrustworthy rats’

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodie lashed out at his own company’s employees and described them as a “bunch of untrustworthy rats.” The artificial intelligence (AI) talent war is pushing salaries to unprecedented levels, but Amodei believes the trend could be attracting employees for the wrong reasons.

The head of the Claude chatbot’s parent company is said to be concerned that some new hires are joining only for massive paychecks rather than the company’s mission of building safe AI.

According to Axios, Amodei has privately expressed concern that the growing race among AI companies to offer eye-watering compensation packages is changing the motivations of incoming employees.

Reports suggest that he is reluctant to join what he described as a race for million dollar salaries across the industry.

Technology giants like Meta, OpenAI, Google and Anthropic are competing very aggressively for a small pool of top researchers. Report suggests some companies are offering very generous compensation packages to attract top talent.

Amodei reportedly believes Anthropic employees should be motivated by Anthropic’s long term mission rather than just financial rewards.

Anthropic itself pays very competitive salaries but he is reportedly worried that bidding wars escalating throughout the industry could undermine culture and values.
