Fans hoping to see Barbie and Ken back on the big screen may have to wait a little longer.
New reports say work on Barbie 2 got slowed down because the people behind the movie have not yet agreed on new contracts.
According to Variety, the biggest issue is money.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is reportedly not ready to approve the higher salaries which are asked for by Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and director Greta Gerwig.
The team is said to already have an idea for the next movie.Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, however, do not want to start writing the script until the new deals are completed.
The studio also has a deadline to work with. If an agreement is not reached before December 2026, the rights to make the sequel will go back to Mattel.
That could stop Warner Bros. from making another Barbie movie with the same cast and creative team.
Reports also say Ryan Gosling is asking for around 20 million dollars.
Talks are also taking place about how much of the movie’s profits the stars should receive.
So far, both sides are still far from reaching an agreement.
The first Barbie movie became a huge success after earning more than 1.4 billion dollars around the world.
For now, everyone wants the sequel to happen but fans will have to wait until the contract buzz is finally settled.
