Benson Boone sparked a new wave of criticism after the internet began dissecting his videos, and claimed that Sabrina Carpenter’s music videos have greatly inspired his – to the extent of copying.
The 24-year-old musician recently rose to fame with his songs Beautiful Things, and Mystical Magical going viral on social media.
However, music enthusiasts remain divided over whether his career has been a one hit wonder, or genuine talent.
Sharing one of his music videos on X, one social media sleuth wrote, “You can tell he wanted to be the male Sabrina Carpenter.”
Another added, “The comedy shtick, sexy pose attempts, the 80’s influenced sound… he made it so obvious,” and “He’s got a great voice and is objectively hot minus the terrible mustache but everything about him just gives “pick me !! Pick me!! Piick me daddy!!” Like spiritually that video of Leslie Jordan,” chimed in a third critic.
While more claimed, “He studied the Espresso video frame-by-frame…Just to hand us an 80s gym teacher aesthetic with a mustache !!!” and “This is genuinely the worst video I’ve seen on this app.”
Boone has not addressed the comparisons and criticism as of yet.
