Bitcoin is surging again: Good news for crypto holders?
Bitcoin is surging again: Good news for crypto holders?

Bitcoin is surging again, climbing back above $80,000 on Friday as crypto investors finally got some relief after a difficult few days.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency jumped more than 5% at one point, touching around $81,000 and recording its third straight day of gains.

That is quite a turnaround from earlier this week.

Bitcoin had been hit by two pieces of news that, on paper at least, looked bad for crypto.

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time in three years, while a major cryptocurrency bill failed to advance in the US Senate.

Instead of extending its losses, Bitcoin bounced back.

One reason is that investors appear to have already priced in much of the bad news. Falling oil prices have also eased some inflation worries, while fresh developments from US regulators gave crypto traders something more positive to work with.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has introduced an exemption allowing companies to offer trading in tokenized versions of stocks and other securities.

Money has also started flowing back into Bitcoin funds.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted around $160 million on Thursday after two days of outflows, according to JPMorgan data cited by the Wall Street Journal.

Then there are the traders who bet Bitcoin would fall.

As the price suddenly shot higher, millions of dollars worth of bearish positions were liquidated, forcing some traders to buy Bitcoin and adding even more fuel to the rally.

For people already holding Bitcoin, the move is certainly welcome. But there is one big reason not to get carried away just yet.

Bitcoin remains far below the record of more than $126,000 it reached in October 2025. The cryptocurrency had fallen to around $60,000 before beginning its latest recovery.

So while $80,000 is an important psychological level, getting above it and staying there are two different things.
