Blake Lively’s courtroom battle with Justin Baldoni has taken another dramatic turn—and this time, it’s her reported $8 million legal fee request that’s stealing the spotlight.
While the court has yet to decide whether Lively will recover any of the costs, several attorneys following the high-profile case say the figure has already become one of the most talked-about issues in legal circles.
“Every attorney I’ve spoken to has laughed at that number,” one veteran civil litigator told Rob Shutter.
“It’s wildly aggressive. Just because you ask for $8 million doesn’t mean you’re going to get anywhere close to it.”
Legal insiders also caution that the headlines don’t tell the full story. Any potential payment, they say, would likely involve questions surrounding Wayfarer Studios, insurance coverage and other legal factors—not simply Justin Baldoni writing a personal check.
“The headlines make it sound like Justin Baldoni would be paying Blake Lively millions,” another attorney noted. “That’s an oversimplification. The legal issues are far more complicated than that.”
Even if Lively ultimately wins the request, lawyers believe the final amount could look very different.
“Fee petitions are negotiated and reduced all the time,” one source explained. “Requesting $8 million is one thing. Convincing a judge to award it is another. That’s why so many attorneys are rolling their eyes.”
For now, the judge has not ruled, and both sides continue to defend their positions. But one thing is clear: the latest filing has sparked almost as much conversation among legal experts as the lawsuit itself.
“The filing has become the talk of the legal community,” one insider said. “Right now, the lawyers aren’t applauding it—they’re mocking it.”
