Britney Spears is looking back at motherhood with a brutally honest message — and admitting there are moments she wishes she could have handled differently.
The 44-year-old pop star shared a photo of her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden, on X alongside a lengthy reflection about her relationship with them, her parents and the experiences that left her feeling powerless.
Spears recalled a time when her sons were “secretly taken to a beach by my mom and dad” when they were younger, something she said deeply affected her.
“I wondered why I wasn’t a part of their cool secret outings,” Britney shared. “I felt demoralized to live in a country where it was accepted for people like my mom and dad to live secret lives with my children… I honestly went to my knees and cried for two months.”
She also reflected on a conversation with one of her sons about faith, saying he told her “it was all science he didn’t personally believe in God.”
For Spears, the exchange became an emotional turning point.
“In that moment I believed I had failed as a mother because I know there is a Holy Spirit that sits high in the kingdom of heaven … I’ve been there I’ve felt it … I wanna to tell my kids and people in general that I’m sorry for my mistakes in the past,” the singer wrote.
Spears then turned the spotlight inward, recalling the person she believes she once was.
“I used to be unbelievably intelligent and 100 percent I was brainwashed into an ignorant system where every goddamn person took advantage of me,” she continued.
“I miss the excitement in my eyes being alive when I was younger, always so eager to please and hungry for life. I was unbelievably passionate about everything.”
Her post offered less of a polished celebrity statement and more of a raw glimpse into a mother reckoning with her past.
