Buckingham Palace has given the Royal Mews a royal shout-out after its historic appearance at the opening ceremony of the FEI World Championships in Aachen, Germany.
Palace shared photographs on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing that the Mews had been invited by the FEI to take part in the spectacular opening ceremony, joining their counterparts from the Netherlands and Denmark for a display celebrating both equestrian tradition and Anglo-German relations.
It was a “privilege” to be part of the occasion alongside the other royal stables, the caption read.
The prestigious championships, held every four years, bring together the world’s leading riders and horses to compete for individual and team titles across disciplines including dressage, show jumping, eventing, driving and vaulting.
This year’s competition runs from 11 to 23 August at Allianz Park.
Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands officially opened the championships in what marked a rare solo engagement for the 22-year-old future Queen.
A keen horsewoman herself, the Princess of Orange has ridden since childhood and is known to share a close bond with her horse, Mojito.
Representing the British contingent was Zara Tindall, who brought her own equestrian credentials to the occasion.
