King Charles will be giving a warm welcome to the Pakistan cricket team this week, just days after it was thought that the tour would be cancelled.
The Buckingham Palace has confirmed the King is expected to meet them in an engagement planned before the test match series began.
“His Majesty the King, as Head of the Commonwealth, will receive the Pakistan Men’s Test Cricket Team for an audience in the gardens of Clarence House, in the break between the second and third Test matches hosted in England over the summer,” the statement read
It is understood the monarch will spend around 15 minutes with the Pakistan team.
The update comes as it was believed the Pakistan Cricket Board suggested not resuming the second Test at Lord’s and cancelling the remainder of the three-match series.
The controversy seemed to have stemmed after Sky Sports published an interview with Pakistan captain and prime minister Imran Khan’s two sons, Suleiman and Kasim Khan. Imran Khan has been in prison for the past three years on the charges of corruption which he has denied.
However, the current Pakistan captain Babar Azam denied there was ever the threat of not playing, describing the story as “rumours”.
