Chris Rock is bringing his family’s Grown Upslegacy full circle, revealing that his 22-year-old daughter, Zahra, will appear alongside him in Grown Ups 3.
Speaking about the news, Rock reflected on how much the franchise has spanned his daughter’s life, having watched her grow up around its earlier productions.
“Grown Ups, big hit movie, ginormous. Me, Adam Sandler, Adam Sandler’s a star, let’s be very clear here. David Spade, Rob Schneider, Kevin James. It’s weird, my kids kind of grew up on those sets, and now my daughter Zahra is actually going to be in the new one. Just great times.”
Zahra will play Charlotte McKenzie, the daughter of Rock’s returning character, Kurt, and his onscreen wife, Deanne.
Her casting continues a broader pattern in the Grown Upsfranchise of folding in real-life family members of the cast, joining Kaleo Elam as Kurt and Deanne’s youngest son and Kamil McFadden as another supporting family character.
Production on the sequel began in New Jersey this past August, with Rock returning alongside longtime co-stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello and Salma Hayek Pinault.
This isn’t Zahra’s first time on screen, either.
She made her film debut earlier this year in Netflix’s Roommates, appearing alongside a similar roster of famous offspring, including Adam Sandler’s daughter Sadie, Eddie Murphy’s daughter Bella, and Laura Dern’s daughter Jaya Harper.
Reflecting on that first project at the film’s premiere in April, Zahra said, “I genuinely couldn’t have imagined a better first movie to be a part of, and the friends I made along the way made the whole experience even more special.”
Zahra, born in 2004, is the younger of Rock’s two daughters with ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock, alongside older sister Lola Simone Rock.
