A devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad has sent a shockwave across the nation, drawing widespread grief and outrage from public figures and celebrities alike.
Showbiz stars voiced their outrage and disappointment on social media, demanding that those responsible be held accountable and face justice.
“15 children and several before”, said Muhammad Ahmed in a video message, seeking accountability for the culprits behind the recent incident, and several more unfortunate reports came before, related to violence against children.
“We hear news about children regularly,” he said, adding: “We will forget these 15 also, as like earlier.”
Why were perpetrators not held accountable or punished? Muhammad Ahmed asked, expressing grief and sorrow for the mothers who lost their children in the Pims fire incident.
Azekah Deniel slammed the “incompetent system” that claimed infants’ lives, saying: “The value of life in our country is nothing but condemnation for a week or two, then we move on, waiting for the next tragedy or next breaking news.”
In a video story, Zara Noor Abbas said she believes that back-to-back incidents are “forcing us to take things and law and order into our hands” because despite several events, no one is “questionable” and “accountable”.
“This is not a terrible accident; it is a result of criminal negligence and mismanagement,” Zunaira Inam Khan posted on Instagram.
Taking to social media, Sabeena Farooq inquired about the current status of the infants.
Actors Ahsan Khan and Nadia Afghan also reshared the video of a mother carrying for her child, urging authorities to hand over the remains of her baby.
The incident is among the deadliest hospital fires in recent years in the country, where government healthcare is subsidised but facilities are under-resourced and overburdened.
Pims, centrally located in Islamabad, is one of the main public hospitals of the city of around 1.1 million people.
