Prince William and Prince Harry’s uncle returned with another bold statement amid the ‘tsunami of criticism’ following the release of Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
During an interview with Lorraine Kelly, Earl Spencer stated that as Diana’s brother, he felt it was his right to write about his beloved sister regardless of the consequences.
A video clip from the interview was shared on Instagram in which the journalist asked Spencer, “You must have known there was going to be a furore. Did you expect it to be on this scale, though? Were you prepared?”

“I think I was because I think your viewers who are nearer my age may remember I had the same reaction after I spoke at Diana’s funeral. The eulogy provoked the same. And it’s interesting because I was so pulverised by the media then that it does not work a second time,” the 62-year-old said.
The backlash has not “rattled” the Earl at all as he has a supportive wife, per Spencer.
Calling her a fabulous woman, Earl said, “And every time we have heard of another crashing tsunami of criticism, she just goes, ‘You are right, they are wrong. And Diana would be proud.’ And that’s it.”
Earl Spencer also firmly believes that Diana would be proud of him for penning a book from a brother’s point of view about the “extraordinary” woman she was and the magnificent life she lived.

“You know, here we are talking about her. 29 years after her tragic death. Who else has that impact? Nobody does. And I think as a brother, you know, I have every right to write about my sister. And I can tell you what Diana would have liked? It’s sort of 350 pages of compliments. And she loved a compliment,” Earl said.
