Ed Sheeran has reportedly lost a significant number of Instagram followers amid the ongoing controversy surrounding his US tour, which he described as ‘one of the first weeks of my life.’
The Shape Of You singer, 35, has faced criticism after he apologised to fans over his handling of a controversy involving Israel and Palestine that has disrupted his tour.
Macklemore was subsequently removed from the remaining US dates of Sheeran’s tour after venues reportedly objected to his participation.
On September 14, Macklemore announced that, following a week of ‘difficult conversations’ with Sheeran, he had been dropped from the tour.
Before that announcement, Sheeran’s Instagram follower reportedly stood at 47.6million, before falling approximately 47.2million.
According to Social Blade data, on September 15 alone, the date Sheeran broke his silence with an Instagram statement, his account shed nearly 150,000 followers, while another drop of more than 98,000 followed the next day.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Ed Sheeran’s close pal Taylor Swift has privately reached out to him, while deliberately staying out of the public conversation surrounding the controversy.
