A claim circulating on social media states that the Punjab Bar Council (PBC) has issued notices to more than 100 hotels and restaurants in Punjab, warning them to stop their staff from wearing uniforms that resemble those worn by lawyers in Pakistani courts.

On July 27, an account on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a post claiming: “The Punjab Bar Council has warned more than 100 hotels for using uniforms resembling those worn by lawyers or judges,” adding that the move was initiated to restore the dignity of the legal profession.
At the time of writing, the post had garnered more than 136,700 views, 38 likes and 18 reposts.
The claim was also shared by multiple users on Facebook and Instagram.
Fact
The Punjab Bar Council confirmed that it had indeed issued notices to several hotels and restaurants over staff uniforms resembling those worn by lawyers and judges in the province.
Geo Fact Check contacted Abbas Ali Chadhar, the chairman of the Punjab Bar Council’s Disciplinary Committees, who said the council had so far issued 67 notices to hotels, restaurants and other establishments across Punjab. He added that additional notices would be issued in the coming days.
“Hotels and other establishments should not require staff to wear uniforms that create the impression that they are lawyers,” Chadhar told Geo Fact Check over the phone.
Geo Fact Check has also seen copies of the notices issued by the Punjab Bar Council’s Disciplinary Committee.
One such notice, issued to a restaurant in Faisalabad on July 28, accused the establishment of “misusing the prescribed uniform of advocates and the court dress of judges.”
The notice further explains that the prescribed uniform for male advocates consists of a black coat, white shirt, black tie, trousers (grey, black or white), or a white shalwar kameez with a black sherwani.
For female advocates, the prescribed uniform is a black coat, white shalwar kameez and white dupatta.
Additionally, Punjab Bar Council Secretary Rafaqat Ali Sohal confirmed via text message that the notices had been issued by the chairman of the council’s Disciplinary Committee to several restaurants.
