During his appearance on SiriusXM Hits 1’s The Morning Mash Up, the former One Direction star singer treated listeners to a stripped-back acoustic cover of Foo Fighters’ My Hero.
The intimate performance saw him putting his own spin on the 1997 rock classic, with the singer visibly immersed in the emotional rendition.
The performance has now made its way back to the song’s original creators.
SiriusXM Hits 1 shared a clip of Tomlinson’s performance on social media, highlighting his live performance of My Hero.
The post subsequently caught the attention of Foo Fighters, who reshared the clip on their own Instagram Story, effectively giving the Lemonadesinger’s cover a nod from the band behind the original.
And the 34-year-old singer didn’t let the moment pass without acknowledging it.
He later reshared Foo Fighters’ post to his own Instagram Story, creating a sweet social-media exchange between the artist and the legendary rock act.
For Tomlinson, who has long incorporated rock influences into his musical identity, receiving a nod from the band behind My Hero makes the cover all the more special.
