Gilmore Girls fans will get to see Stars Hollow in a brand-new light.
On Wednesday, August 5, HBO Max announced a the first-ever Gilmore Girls documentary, promising never-before-seen footage and behind-the-scenes secrets from the people behind the television phenomenon.
Directed by Bonni Cohen and produced by Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, the still-untitled documentary will feature creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino, star Lauren Graham and other key cast and crew members reflecting on the show’s lasting legacy.
Graham, who portrayed Lorelai Gilmore throughout the show’s original seven-season run and its 2016 revival, shared the announcement on Instagram with a collection of nostalgic photos from the series.
“Oh hey, hi… we’re making a documentary,” she wrote alongside images featuring Alexis Bledel, who played her on-screen daughter Rory Gilmore, as well as castmates Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Keiko Agena, Kelly Bishop, Yanic Truesdale, Liz Torres and the late Edward Herrmann.
Originally airing from 2000 to 2007, Gilmore Girls became a cultural favourite thanks to its fast-paced dialogue, complicated mother-daughter relationships, and charming Stars Hollow setting.
While the franchise returned with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016, this marks the first authorised documentary dedicated to telling the story behind the series.
HBO Max has not yet announced a release date.
