Gwyneth Paltrow has apparently decided that if the internet is going to turn her dinner plans into a meme, she might as well join the joke.
The actress and Goop founder, 53, hit back at online criticism, after a report claimed she was planning a private “off-the-record” dinner at her Hamptons home for OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
The alleged invitation quickly spread online, with critics calling Paltrow “a villain” and “tone-deaf.”
Comedian-activist Matt Bernstein even suggested her connections to artificial intelligence amounted to “technofascism.”
Rather than issue a lengthy explanation, Paltrow went for the internet’s favorite weapon: trolling.
She shared several versions of the invitation on Instagram, swapping Altman’s name for fictional and viral characters including M3GAN, Samantha Jones, SHREK, Jessica Rabbit and Chanty Beluga.
Then came the punchline.
“We’re serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request,” Paltrow captioned the posts.
Journalist Shayan Sardarizadeh also weighed in, saying the original invitation “is likely AI-generated.”
Paltrow’s response comes after a string of tech-related headlines. Last year, she appeared in an ad for Astronomer after the company became a viral sensation when two executives were filmed together at a Coldplay concert.
Paltrow jokingly introduced herself as the company’s “temporary spokesperson.”
She also recently hosted billionaire military-tech entrepreneur Trae Stephens on her Goop podcast, where they discussed emerging defense technology and America’s military strategy.
Whether the Sam Altman dinner is real or just the internet getting catfished by AI, Paltrow seems perfectly happy letting the meme run wild.
