Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the spotlight, not for their historic UK return but to issue a bold statement about a major trial.
On their official website, the couple’s team released a long message sharing details about a big tech company’s settlement.
They specifically pointed out that the company chose to pay money but did not issue an apology for causing young kids and their parents harm through the design of intense social media applications.
The title of their statement is “Meta To Pay Billions In Child Endangerment Settlement, Issues No Apology.”
Speaking of the trial against the tech giant, the Sussexes’ spokesperson shared that the company was accused of “endangering children,” which has resulted in a settlement in which it will pay up to $17.1 billion.
The company has to pay financial penalties for “violating federal child privacy and states’ consumer protection laws.”
It has also been mentioned that the tech company has been making significant needed changes to its different applications, which will be beneficial for the youngsters.
However, Harry and Meghan expressed distress that the tech company is not apologising for building products which are harmful and becoming a root cause of many problems in society.
Despite that, Harry and Meghan saw this step as a positive one in their and many parents’ fight for safer online spaces.
“We celebrate with the parent and youth partners, legal and policy experts, and allies everywhere fighting for accountability.
As always, we stand with them as they seek justice going forward, ensuring child online safety is built into any online space where our young people spend time,” the statement concluded.
