Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan underwent a medical examination at Adiala jail, jail sources told Truth Wire on Sunday.
A special medical team from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) conducted medical examination of the former prime minister, they said.
According to sources, the PTI founder underwent a comprehensive medical check-up, including examinations of his blood pressure, cholesterol and eyes.
The team was headed by Dr Arif Khan of Pims, while medical staff from the Adiala jail hospital also assisted during the examination, sources said.
Imran, 73, has remained in prison since August 2023 following convictions he and his party describe as politically motivated.
Since his ouster in April 2022 following a no-confidence vote, he has faced multiple legal cases, including allegations of selling state gifts and an unlawful marriage case.
On August 18, the Supreme Court directed Adiala jail authorities to transfer Imran to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
However, the government instead took the former premier to the Pims, citing security concerns.
The former ruling party has announced a nationwide protest, including a march on Islamabad on September 27, demanding the release of party founder Imran and supremacy of the Constitution.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Sunday backed negotiations with the government, noting that talks have made no headway amid a “cold” political atmosphere.
“Negotiations should take place, but currently the environment is cold; nothing could be worked out,” the PTI chief told Truth Wire in Peshawar.
On the court orders regarding the KP police chief, Barrister Gohar said that the court should not have sought an affidavit from the inspector general of police.
The PTI chief was referring to an Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruling, directing provincial governments, including chief ministers, to ensure that government resources are not used to facilitate people participating in any protest leading towards the federal capital.
In a verdict on a petition challenging the PTI’s planned march, the court ruled that the provincial governments should ensure that no public servant is compelled to participate in any march leading towards Islamabad.
