Jack Antonoff has officially found a way to make his divorce news awkwardly funny.
The Bleachersfrontman was back onstage in Los Angeles this week when a fan accidentally picked the one song that probably wasn’t going to make the set list anytime soon.
During his September 15 show at the Troubadour, someone in the crowd asked Jack to perform Let’s Get Married, his 2017 Bleachers track that later became his wedding song with Margaret Qualley.
Jack’s response? Brutally simple.
“Absolutely not,” Jack said with a laugh, per USA Today. “Read the news, brother.”
The crowd immediately burst into laughter, apparently appreciating the very on-the-nose timing. But Jack wasn’t about to completely disown the song.
He added that he “love[s] that song” and pointed out that he wrote it 11 years ago.
Fair enough. The song may now come with a very different vibe, but apparently Jack isn’t ready to delete it from his musical history.
Jack, 42, and Margaret, 31, split after three years of marriage, with news of their separation breaking in July.
The former couple began dating in 2021, got engaged the following year and tied the knot on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, in 2023.
Margaret’s representative later addressed speculation surrounding the breakup and denied some of the rumors about what led to their split.
Still, Jack’s first public reaction to the separation was less tearful statement and more perfectly timed punchline.
And honestly, what better way to handle someone requesting your old wedding song?
