The bald eagle, Jackie, has raised multiple eaglets in Big Bear with her partner Shadow, living a life for 14 years.
Jackie was hatched from an egg in 2012, near Big Bear Lake, California.
Jackie, the bald eagle who lived above Big Bear Lake, was shared with millions through a live webcam.
The Ojai Raptor Centre announced her passing in a social media post, saying, “Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment.”
“She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit,” the centre added.
Following the incident, Jackie fell ill, with the Centre describing her condition as anaemic.
As per the last updates from the Ojai Raptor Centre, Jackie’s packed cell volume was as low as 6% on Saturday, slightly rose to 9% the following day.
The centre described the count as a sign of improvement but showed concerns that her “PCV remains critically low and her overall condition remains extremely serious.”
Just weeks ago, Jackie’s PCV was recorded at 17%.
She is survived by Shadow and her last two chicks, Luna and Sandy, who was born in March.
