  • Additional documents submitted with the contempt petition.
  • Uzma alleges Imran denied calls with sons despite court order.

ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan’s sister Dr Uzma Khan on Thursday filed a second contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court over non-compliance with an August 18 top court’s order concerning the incarcerated former prime minister’s medical treatment and meetings with family members.

In the petition, she contended that Imran has not been allowed to meet family members despite the court’s order. The petitioner maintained that the former premier has not been provided with the facility to speak to his sons by phone.

According to the petition, Dr Uzma, Aleema Khan and Qasim Zaman have been prevented from meeting jailed PTI founder.

Additional documents have also been submitted with the contempt petition, along with two miscellaneous applications seeking to place further documents on record.

Imran has remained in prison since August 2023 following convictions he and his party describe as politically motivated. Since his ouster in April 2022 following a no-confidence vote, he has faced multiple legal cases.

The latest plea comes two days after the Supreme Court rejected an application filed by Dr Uzma, seeking an early hearing of her contempt of court petition concerning her brother’s hospital transfer, sources said.

Dr Uzma filed her first contempt plea on August 25 after the government transferred the jailed former prime minister to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for a medical examination instead of Shifa International Hospital as per the top court’s directives.

The Supreme Court, in its August 18 order, had directed the authorities to transfer the former premier, incarcerated at Adiala Jail, to Shifa International Hospital for a medical examination.

A day ago, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered jail authorities not to keep former prime minister Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi in solitary confinement while disposing of petitions challenging their alleged isolation in jail.

IHC’s Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo announced the verdict reserved on petitions seeking to declare the alleged solitary confinement of Imran and his spouse Bushra illegal.

The petitions were filed by Aleema Khanum on behalf of Imran and Mubashra Khawar Maneka, the daughter of Bushra Bibi, against the alleged solitary confinement of the former first couple.
