Jared Leto is denying a series of sexual misconduct allegations detailed in a new BBCdocumentary.
According to the documentary, released on Friday, July 29, four women accused the Oscar-winning actor and musician of misconduct involving them when they were teenagers — claims Leto has firmly rejected.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Leto, 54, responded: “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”
The BBCdocumentary, Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, examines allegations dating from 2002 to 2016. The women, whose identities were not fully revealed, accused the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman of various forms of sexual misconduct, including assault, statutory rape, sexually explicit phone calls and threatening behaviour.
The BBCsaid it corroborated the women’s accounts, though The Associated Press reported it could not independently verify the allegations.
According to the BBC, Leto did not respond to its requests for comment before the documentary aired.
The documentary follows a separate report published by Air Mail last year, in which nine women also accused Leto of misconduct. A representative for the actor denied those allegations at the time.
