New York Mets reliever Jefry Yan was humming in the air after scoring his debut strikeout on Wednesday, August 5.
Yam, 29, left hander, Yan struck out the first batter he faced in his debut MLB match during Mets’ 6-5 win against the Cleveland Guardians.
On Wednesday night in Cleveland, Yan’s viral moment came after outfielder Angel Martines took an 88.7 mph slider for a called third strike to open the Guardians’ sixth.
Yan jumped high into the air with his feet split, landed on the front of the mound, dropped to one knee, and slapped the grass with his left hand at Progressive Field, in Ohio.
“Honestly, I was really excited. I was also a little nervous,” buzzing with the debut MLB strikeout said via an interpreter.
Yan was inducted from the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse on Monday, August 3, before making a debut on Wednesday night.
“I am going to continue to go out there the same way. I’m going to go out there with the same type of emotion, the same type of fun, have fun like I am playing a kids’ game, like I always have,” super excited young Mets’ rookied remarked.
The 29-year-old rooki, Yan, pitched one inning in the one-run win for the Mets, posting two strikeouts while allowing two hits on 22 pitches.
