Prince Harry, who appears to be inching closer to a reconciliation with his father, could just be one step closer to his goal as one of his key enemies finally forfeits the game.
The Duke of Sussex has been at a row with the Firm ever since he left his senior royal position in 2020. Harry has raised concerns over his security for years and has blamed the Palace for causing the trouble for him.
One particular antagonist in Harry’s story had been Sir Clive Alderton, the King’s most senior aide, who will be stepping down next year. Royal author Valentine Low noted that while Harry didn’t explicitly name anyone in his memoir, it was clear that he was referring to Clive as the “wasp”.
“Harry basically describes how he’s very sort of charming and courtier-like and self-effacing, but, you know, if you cross him, if you push back—in Harry’s view—you’d learn about it,” Low said noting that “it’s not necessarily a strategically wise thing to get on the wrong side of Clive Alderton”.
Explaining that there was a “certain amount of antipathy” between the Palace aide and the Sussexes, he couldn’t have been blamed for “everything” that happened to them.
“The palace private secretaries have an input—obviously, their voice is listened to—but in the end, I don’t think it’ll affect it.”
Hence, the King could now be the one directly addressing the security matter with Clive out of the way, something that Harry had hoped for.
There is still a pending verdict on the security and it remains to be seen how things will pan out with this major change.
