King Charles has joined Singapore in celebrating its 61st National Day with a message to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
The monarch acknowledged close ties between the two nations and praising the “enduring partnership” shared by the United Kingdom and Singapore.
In his message, the King looked back on the growing relationship between the two countries and extended his congratulations on behalf of himself and Queen Camilla
Charles also pointed to the countries’ shared work on climate change and sustainability, while looking ahead to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November.
His statement on Instagram read: “ Dear Mr. President,
On the occasion of your National Day, my wife and I send our warmest congratulations to you and to the people of the Republic of Singapore.
The UK-Singapore Strategic Partnership continues to go from strength to strength, as demonstrated by your visit to the United Kingdom in June and the visit of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to Singapore last November.
The visits of RSS Formidable in London and HMS Prince of Wales at Marina Bay further reflect the close ties between our nations.
I am also greatly encouraged by the thriving links between our countries in business, education, innovation, research and sport.
I look forward to the opportunity for our nations to come together at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November, where we may reaffirm our shared commitments and chart a course for the future.
We join in extending our very best wishes to you and to all Singaporeans for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
