Lily Collins feared she would lose her father Phil Collins after his battle with alcoholism left him fighting for his life.
In fact, all of his children said their final goodbyes, the music legend revealed in a new interview with The Sunday Times published on August 3.
Phil, 75, recalled that he was unconscious in a Swiss hospital in April 2024 when his longtime manager called his family to discuss whether he should be kept on life support.
“My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up,” Phil said. “People were coming to say goodbye.”
“I don’t remember them coming,” he continued. “I didn’t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong.”
The Oscar-winner — who has been open about his struggle with alcoholism — was first hospitalised in November 2023 due to complications linked to his alcohol use. After a brief discharge before Christmas, he was rushed back into intensive care and ultimately spent seven months in hospital.
Following his recovery, Phil reunited with his family in London, where he shared an emotional moment with daughter Lily. “She was sitting beside me in tears, saying, ‘I never thought I’d get these moments.’”
“We had an incredible time. I can’t overemphasise how fantastic it was,” he added.
The reunion marked another chapter in the pair’s rebuilt relationship. In her 2017 memoir, the Emily in Parisstar opened up about struggling to grow up with her famous father, who was practically absent throughout her childhood. However, she publicly forgave him.
