Livingston has terminated former Irish international coach Glenn Whelan just after five league matches.
After sacking Whelan, 42, Livingston has brought back David Martindale as head coach on an interim basis.
Whelan, who was appointed as head coach, had his reign last only 92 days.
Former Republic of Ireland, Stoke and Aston Villa star Whelan took charge of the West Lothian Club’s affairs in May following the latter’s drop from the Scottish Premiership.
But after Whelan failed to help Livingston to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Premier Sports Cup, the Lions only have managed six points from their opening five league games.
There were two wins and two draws in the Premier Sports Cup.
Friday night’s 1-0 home loss to Marvin Bartley’s Stenhousemuir turned out to be the last nail in Whelan’s coffin, forcing his exit just after 92 days at Livingston.
Whelan is departing Livingston, sitting fifth in the Scottish Championship, having won two and lost three of their opening league matches.
Livingston chairman Calvin Ford while making the announcement that ended Whelan’s brief reign, said, “Our net will cast far wider than it was in our previous search, and the focus of the search will be via data analytics.”
“In the short term, David Martindale & Frankie McAvoy will temporarily step in as interim coaches assisted by Grant Murray and Brian Potter,“ Ford announced.
Martindale had completed his six-year run as manager in January, while Marvin Bartley resigned after the club’s relegation was sealed.
