Marvel fans barely had time to celebrate Wonder Man’sfuture before Disney+ pulled the plug.
Just months after the streamer renewed the superhero series for a second season, Marvel reversed course, leaving fans stunned—and star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II with a heartfelt message for those who supported the show.
Breaking his silence on Instagram, the Emmy-nominated actor wrote, “Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back. That’s life, right? Everything will shake out.”
Rather than dwell on the surprise cancellation, Abdul-Mateen focused on the fans who embraced the series.
“I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it,” he wrote.
He also revealed he followed YouTube reaction videos alongside viewers, adding, “I could see it on the faces of the Youtube Reactors… and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up… I’m glad we got to be a part of something cool.”
Ending on an optimistic note, Abdul-Mateen signed off with a smile-worthy tease: “Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS.”
The cancellation came as a shock after Wonder Man debuted with 618 million viewing minutes during its premiere week and earned strong reviews from critics and audiences.
Abdul-Mateen’s performance also landed him an Emmy nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
The series may be over, but if the actor’s message is any indication, Marvel fans—and awards voters—haven’t seen the last of Wonder Man just yet.
