Matthew Perry’s family is sharing a closer look at the actor’s life and his long fight with addiction in a new documentary.
The trailer for The One About Matthew Perry shows a side of the Friends star that many people did not see. It looks at his early dreams, his huge success and the problems he faced after becoming famous.
Perry wanted to make people laugh and become a famous actor. But when he finally reached that dream, he found that fame could not make him feel better inside.
“I was extremely happy when I got famous,” Perry says in the documentary. “Then I was like, ‘Uh-oh, this didn’t fix what’s inside me. This didn’t do what I thought it was gonna do.'”
His sister, Mia Perry Bowick, also talks about the pain Perry faced while trying to get sober.

“My brother would talk about that feeling of emptiness or loneliness that he couldn’t quite fill. He spent $7 million trying to get sober — that’s how seriously he took his disease.”
The documentary also shows how Perry tried to help others who were going through similar struggles. People who knew him during recovery share their memories and talk about the difference he made in their lives.
The One About Matthew Perry is directed by Mary Robertson and will arrive on Netflix on October 27.
