Argentina football legend Lionel Messi has penned an emotional tribute to his father, Jorge Messi, following his demise.
The heartfelt letter was posted on his Instagram, revealing the deep bond between the son and father.
Messi wrote: “My dad, I still can’t believe you’re gone. I can’t believe I won’t see you anymore, that we won’t talk anymore.”
The 39-year-old star for Inter Miami talked about his father’s last days as he explained how ill his father became days before the Argentina team’s recent World Cup appearance. Messi had told his father that they would make it to the final game.
He recalled: “I told you we would get to the final and you could see a game. We weren’t champions, but you never knew how we enjoyed every game. Once again, you were right: you had to be there and play.”
Jorge Messi was much more than just a father to the football star. He was his son’s agent, mentor, and strongest supporter. He recalled how his dad left work to bring him to training, and he did not miss any game.
“You were dad, friend, and representative. You were always the person you had to be in every moment, and you never made a mistake. Beyond some reproaches or fights, you were always right,” he added.
He also shared his uncertainty about his football career, writing: “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you, I don’t know how to go on. I just played soccer and now have a lot of doubts that I’ll keep doing it for a long time more.”
“Thank you for everything. I love you, Dad,” the tribute concluded.
