Michelle Yeoh’s victory lap isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
Fresh off becoming the first Asian woman to receive the Honorary Golden Bear in Berlin earlier this year, the Oscar-winning actress has now added another prestigious title to her growing list of achievements.
The Busan International Film Festival has named Yeoh its 2026 Asian Filmmaker of the Year, celebrating her decades-long impact on Asian and global cinema.
The honor will be presented during Busan’s opening ceremony on October 6, where Yeoh will also be celebrated with a special showcase of her work.
The festival’s tribute spans every era of her remarkable career—from Hong Kong action classics like Yes, Madam!, Police Story 3: Supercop and Wing Chunto international hits including Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsand her Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Busan audiences will also get a curated three-film lineup selected by Yeoh herself, featuring Everything Everywhere All at Once, Reign of Assassins and Sandiwara, the acclaimed short film directed by Sean Baker.
The celebration doesn’t stop there.
The festival will also screen It’s My Time, Yeoh’s first Chinese-language feature since winning the Academy Award. In the heartwarming drama, she plays a woman who unexpectedly discovers a talent for competitive speedcubing later in life.
With Wicked: For Goodand Blade Runner 2099also on the horizon, Yeoh continues to prove that four decades into her career, she’s still collecting milestones as effortlessly as movie fans collect popcorn.
Busan’s latest honour simply adds another well-earned chapter to an already legendary résumé.
