Microsoft boosts spending plans; shares jump 8% as Azure sales cross $100 billion

Microsoft, global powerhouse in software development, has ended the fiscal year with $90 billion in quarterly revenue.

Microsoft, in its earnings release, mentioned solid cloud growth and a surge of paid artificial intelligence subscribers.

Microsoft’s revenue targets climbed by 18% to $90 billion in the last quarter of the fiscal year.

The results show an optimistic sign of company’s AI-revenue growth approach to invest aggressively in data centers.

According to the statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, the company stated that its net income was recorded at $35.77, an increase from $27.23 billion in the same quarter a year ago.

While on the AI front, the company posted a $3.2 billion net profit from its ambitious investment in artifical intelligence lab Anthropic.

Microsoft’s gaming venture Xbox received a non-cash charge, revenue dropping to 10% even as the company posted strong earnings.

According to the earnings release, the company said its cloud revenue increased 28%, that previously stood at $59.3 billion, while its commercial remaining performance obligation increased 84% to $678 billion.

Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, Azure, posted a quarterly revenue of $39.31 billion, up 31.6% from the previous year.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella claimed the company’s cloud computing platform Azure’s revenue exceeded $100 billion in the 2026 fiscal year for the first time, up 41%.

“This year, Azure revenue surpassed $100 billion for the first time, and Microsoft 365 Copilot reached over 30 million, reflecting the confidence are placing in us to power their AI transformation,” said Nadella.
