KARACHI: The father of deceased businessman Mir Raza Ali has decided to seek a fresh post-mortem examination, expressing dissatisfaction with the findings of the ongoing investigation.

On the night of July 28, Ali, an IBA graduate, returned home from his shop before leaving again, telling his family he would be back within 10 minutes. Police later recovered his body from bushes in Block 1 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Mir Hussain, the victim’s father, said he would file an application for another post-mortem of his son.

He also rejected the police investigation conducted so far, as well as the initial medical report, and called for a more thorough examination into the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

Father rejects suicide theory

Speaking to Truth Wire earlier, Hussain maintained that his son had been murdered and alleged that attempts were being made to portray the death as a suicide.

He claimed Ali’s face, body and fingerprints had been burned and alleged that he had been shot from behind.

Hussain also questioned why the initial medical report referred only to a gunshot wound and did not mention alleged signs of torture.

According to Hussain, the young businessman went missing on July 28 and his body was found a day later. He questioned where his son had been during the intervening 24 hours.

He said Ali had spoken to his sister before leaving home on July 28, adding that a taxi driver later told the family the young businessman appeared happy and had been singing during the journey.

The deceased’s father appealed to higher authorities to ensure a transparent investigation into the case.

Post-mortem findings

Investigative sources had earlier said an initial medical assessment found that Ali sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

Preliminary findings also suggested that he had taken a security guard’s weapon before the incident.

According to the preliminary post-mortem report, the body was estimated to be 24 to 36 hours old at the time of examination.

Medico-legal sources said the bullet’s entry wound was larger than the exit wound, indicating it was fired from behind and exited through the front. They added that suspicious marks were found on Ali’s right hand, while injuries were also visible on his face.

The sources further said photographs taken during the examination showed swelling and severe damage to the face.

Special investigation team formed

Meanwhile, Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police Azad Khan has constituted a three-member special investigation team to probe the case and directed officers to submit daily progress reports.

The team, headed by Special Investigation Unit SSP Samiullah Soomro, includes District East SSP Zubair Nazir Sheikh and SP Muhammad Usman Saduzai. It has been tasked with examining all aspects of the case and identifying those responsible, The News reported.

Mobile data under scrutiny

Investigators have also obtained Ali’s mobile phone data record and forensic report. According to officials, the records suggest he owed money to several people.

Authorities said Ali had sent a message to a friend on the night of July 28 seeking a loan of Rs30 million, telling him he was facing severe financial difficulties.

Officials said statements from 15 people, including a taxi driver and the individual who first reported the discovery of the body online, had been recorded.

Investigation officials said the family had expressed reservations about the initial medical report and that another medical examination could be conducted if formally requested.

They added that a detailed investigation is underway to determine whether Ali’s death was a suicide or a murder.
