After six months of the suspected kidnapping of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the investigation remains active with authorities and the FBI working to solve the case, even as a public dispute emerges over early handling of the probe.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the investigation is ongoing, with DNA and digital evidence analysis still underway.
In a recent development, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has pushed back against FBI Director Kash Patel’s recent claims that his agency was kept out of the investigation for four critical days.
Nanos stressed that the FBI was there from “day one” and criticised Patel for being “misinformed.”
Earlier, Patel told the media that local authorities sent evidence to a private lab in Florida rather than the FBI’s facility in Quantico, a move he believes cost valuable time. But Nanos maintains that evidence was processed properly and rebuffed allegations of jurisdiction friction.
Guthrie’s story has garnered national headlines as she is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a co-anchor on the “Today” show who has been begging for her mother’s safe release. A reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of the criminals.
“Pack, who has been following the story very closely, says the two men were amateur kidnappers with little plan beyond abducting her mother,” he explained. “When it didn’t go as they expected and, I believe, quickly, they had no backup plan at all,” Pack continued and encouraged people to take another look at the footage released in early February.
