The Australian athletics world is in shock as 21-year-old middle-distance runner Natasha Ward died suddenly.
The middle-distance runner, who competed in the 2024 Australian Championships, specialized in 400m, 800m, and 1500m events. She started her racing career at school, where she won medals in the NSW All Schools Championships. She recently represented Macquarie University, where she won a bronze medal in the 800m at the UniSport Nationals in April.
As of today, there has been no disclosure of information about the cause of the demise of Natasha Ward. The news of her demise broke on July 30, 2026, through a joint press release issued by NSW Athletics and her club, who only referred to her death as being “sudden.”

Sutherland District Athletics Club paid an emotional tribute to War, highlighting her inspiring spirit and dedication to the sport. The club wrote: “Beyond her achievements on the track, Natasha was a greatly loved member of our community. Her magnetic smile and warm personality have left a permanent mark on Australian athletics.”
