Marvel Studios has unveiled a new special look at Avengers: Doomsday.
Fans got the biggest glimpse yet at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, including a chilling confrontation with Thor.
The footage was first unveiled during Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, on Friday, August 14, as part of the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the Honda Center.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introduced the new trailer alongside Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell.
The new video , now officially available, puts Doctor Doom firmly at the center of the story and gives fans a much closer look at the threat facing the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four.
One exchange in particular has emerged as the trailer’s standout moment.
Thor confronts Doom and warns him, “You’ll beg for hell long before I grant it.”
Doom’s response? “Hell answers to me. For I am Doom.”
The line is followed by a jaw-dropping display of Doom’s power as he stops Thor’s attack and turns the confrontation decisively in his favour.
The footage also teases Doom unleashing an army of Sentinels, further emphasizing the enormous scale of the threat awaiting Marvel’s heroes.
However, the new special look isn’t simply about Doom showing off his power. It also offers more insight into the man beneath the mask.
The footage reportedly explores Victor von Doom’s tragic past, presenting him as someone who was once capable of love and kindness before suffering a devastating personal loss.
That tragedy appears to be closely connected to his transformation into the film’s terrifying central antagonist.
Thor may be a god. The Avengers may be Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The X-Men may be back.
But according to Victor von Doom, even hell belongs to him.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.
