Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre is pushing back against viral social media claims that he has “given up” in his battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He remained steadfast, stating he’s determined to fight the degenerative neurological disorder.
The 56-year-old Green Bay Packers legend publicly revealed his diagnosis during a September 2024 congressional hearing, stating the primary reason is severe head trauma from his 20-year NFL career, during which he estimates he sustained over 1,000 concussions.
His recent videos showing Favre slurring his words and speaking with occasional stutters sparked widespread concern among fans. In one promotional clip for Colectivo Packers Mèxico, Favre struggled through his script, prompting comments like: “Seeing him like this is honestly hard; I remember when he seemed almost indestructible on the field.”
But Favre directly addressed the rumours, stating firmly: “I have absolutely not given up and I am fighting till the end.”
He continues to exercise, participate in clinical trials, and maintain an active lifestyle despite his condition.
Opening up about his symptoms, he explained that he mainly suffers from rigidity and stiffness, especially in the mornings.
He admitted: “When I wake up in the morning, I feel like a board.”
“I’m probably like most people; I thought there was just one Parkinson’s and that was it. There’s not. There are multiple, many forms. I major in rigidity and stiffness,” he added.
Favre has been open about his struggles with swallowing issues and tight muscles, but remains optimistic. Medical experts reportedly caught his condition “incredibly early”, enabling more effective treatment.
