Nicole Kidman’s first and only Oscar win should have been one of the happiest moments of her life — but it wasn’t.
The Australian actress, 59, opened up about the bittersweet experience on the September 10 episode of the Therapuss podcast with Jake Shane while promoting her and Sandra Bullock’s new movie, Practical Magic 2.
Kidman won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying Virginia Woolf in The Hours.
“I was beyond lonely,” she admitted. “I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely.”
Kidman, who had divorced Tom Cruise in 2001 after a decade of marriage, said the night became a turning point. “I had my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, ‘Where’s my partner, someone that I can share this with?’”
“It was one of the most profound moments where I went, ‘I’ve got to get a life’,” she added.
Looking back, the mom-of-four described her mood simply as “Weird.” She also admitted, “I’d love to be able to just, you know, be wrapped in somebody’s arms right now.”
Kidman later married Keith Urban in 2006. They split in 2025 and finalised their divorce in January 2026.
