New York State is bracing for rain and potential flash flooding on Thursday and Friday, 6-7 August 2026.
The heat advisory is effective from 11 a.m. ET Thursday, August 6, into 8 p.m. Friday, with temperatures expected to be more like 95-100 degrees outside.
According to the heat advisory in place for Tri-State Area, including NYC, both days were declared as First Alert Weather Days due to hot, humid and stormy weather, per CBS in-house weather forecasting team.
NYC officials have been gearing up with heat and flash flood emergency plans for the next two days.
The city administration has set up cooling centres which will remain operational across the five boroughs.
The New Yorkers can access the list of these cooling centres either online or through 311.
Besides this, there will be around two dozen Cooling Outreach On-Location (COOL) vans deployed across the state to help people with medical emergencies, food, and more.
The outlet further reported that partial rain and thunderstorm conditions may prevail on Thursday afternoon and evening, mainly north and west of NYC, though the city could also see flash flooding.
Friday will bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms, along with sticky, humid conditions.
